Past board co-chair delivers remarks about the importance of the Best Places to Work program at the annual award recognition event.
An investment company with offices in Selinsgrove and a transmission and gear business based in King of Prussia have been picked as the best of the “100 Best Places to Work” in the commonwealth.
Edward Jones of Selinsgrove and Philadelphia Gear Company, King of Prussia are the 2010 winners in the large- and medium-sized categories, respectively.
Team Pennsylvania Foundation joined the Department of Community and Economic Development, the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, and the Central Penn Business Journal in announcing Pennsylvania’s 100 Best Places to Work during an awards ceremony tonight at the Lancaster County Convention Center. The winners of this year’s contest employ about 53,000 Pennsylvanians.
“Team Pennsylvania Foundation is proud to be a founding and ongoing partner in the 100 Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania competition,” said Richard Hudic, president and CEO of Team Pennsylvania Foundation. “It has become an established benchmarking tool for businesses in the commonwealth. It is a standard of achievement and a distinction that makes them more marketable to clients and potential employees.”
“I am proud to honor Pennsylvania’s Top 100 Best Places to Work. These are companies that exemplify what it takes to create a work environment brimming with opportunities for innovation, employee growth, and satisfaction,” said Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Austin Burke. “This year’s winners prove that great work environments and profitability can go hand in hand.”
The Best Places to Work in PA includes two groups of 50 companies: medium-sized firms with 25-250 employees and large-sized companies with 251 employees or more. Through research, a survey is sent to employers and employees from hundreds of companies in the commonwealth. Using a formula similar to Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work for in America,” the Best Companies Group scores the workplace practices survey along with the employee survey and each Best Places to Work candidate is given an overall score.
To be eligible, participating companies must:
• Be a for-profit or not-for-profit business;
• Be a publicly or privately held business;
• Have a facility in Pennsylvania;
• Have at least 25 employees in Pennsylvania; and
• Be in good standing with all commonwealth agencies under the Governor’s jurisdiction.
“We recognize companies during this event that strive for and create a positive and rewarding work environment through innovative practices,” said David A. Schankweiler, publisher, Central Penn Business Journal. “By recognizing these outstanding companies, we are promoting Pennsylvania as a leader in the business community.”
Winners will be highlighted in a special newspaper supplement produced by the Central Penn Business Journal that will be distributed statewide this week.
