Investor Exchange program features Lt. Gov. Jim Cawley

Lt. Gov. Jim Cawley, center, addresses key legislative issues with Team PA investors at its Investor Exchange event.

Lt. Governor Jim Cawley discussed a number of important issues with Team Pennsylvania Foundation investors at its Investor Exchange program.

Investor Exchange programs are a series of dialogues with Foundation investors with key state leaders in an informal setting. Speakers update members on their work and conduct a question-and-answer session on topics of interest to investors.

The next Investor Exchange will be on Wednesday, February 1 with Julia Hearthway, Secretary, Department of Labor and Industry. Investors interested in attending the next IE event can contact Relationship Manager Katie Thiemann at kthiemann@teampa.com or by calling 717-233-1375 to make their reservation.

Team PA supports international speaker events

Team PA recently sent representatives from Pennsylvania to speak at a conference in France and will send, in February, another speaker to India as part of Team PA’s and the Center for Direct Investment’s Expert Speaker series program.

These events enable industry experts to represent Pennsylvania at international, industry-focused conferences and trade shows to promote the commonwealth’s presence in the global marketplace.

In December, The Rhône-Alpes Regional Council in France hosted representatives from Pennsylvania and the State of Paraná in Brazil at a renewable energy conference held in Lyon, France, for three days.

Catherine Sheane, Sustainable Design Manager at Astorino, a Pittsburgh-based architectural firm, and Green Building Alliance board member and Doug Neidich, CEO, GreenWorks Development, Harrisburg, and President, Solarity, Inc., a firm involved in the development of thin-film organic photovoltaic cells, represented Pennsylvania at the event.

During the conference, the group heard presentations from regional and local organizations about renewable energy activities in the Rhône-Alpes region concerning energy efficiency, solar energy and biogas.

The PA duo visited key organizations and sites including ZAC de Bonne Eco district in Grenoble; the Institute National de L’Energie Solaire (National Solar Energy Institute) at Savoie Technolac, a solar and eco-industries technology park; and La Feyssine purification plant in Villeurbanne.

The conference was organized under the framework of the partnership between Pennsylvania, the Rhône-Alpes region, and the state of Paraná, Brazil, for renewable energies.

Pennsylvania and the Rhône-Alpes region sent delegations to Paraná in July, 2008; and in September 2010, Pennsylvania hosted renewable energy delegations from Paraná and the Rhône-Alpes.

Pennsylvania and the Rhône-Alpes region signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2006, agreeing to strengthen bilateral relations and exchanges between the two regions.

Team PA welcomes new staff member, intern

Team PA extends a warm welcome to two new staff members, Katie Thiemann and Allison Markow. Thiemann is the Foundation’s new Relationship Manager while Markow will be working during this college semester as an intern in the organization’s International Initiatives department.

A graduate of Penn State University, Thiemann’s most recently worked with the Corbett/Cawley Inaugural Committee as a consultant and previously as an associate at Keystone Strategies, LLC, where she designed strategy and implemented large-scale fundraising events for federal, state and local candidates.

Markow is a senior who is majoring in International Business with a minor in German and a concentration in Finance at Elizabethtown College, Lancaster County. Markow will intern during the spring semester at Team PA where she will assist with the coordination and implementation of Governor Corbett’s trade mission to France and Germany in March.

Welcome, Katie and Allison, to the Team PA family!

Apply now for 2012 Governor’s Environmental Excellence award

Environmentally conscious businesses, organizations and individuals have until Jan. 30 to apply for the 2012 Governor’s Environmental Excellence Award, the Department of Environmental Protection recently announced.

The award is open to any Pennsylvania business, government agency, educational institution, individual or farm that has created or participated in the development of a project that promotes environmental stewardship and economic development.

Eligible projects include environmental technology innovation, clean energy innovation, pollution prevention and resource efficiency, community revitalization, environmental education or outreach, watershed stewardship and mine safety, among others.

Projects will be evaluated based on applicants’ demonstration of how their project will protect the environment; teamwork; public service; environmental education and outreach; pollution prevention; economic impact, including potential job creation; and the use of innovative technology. The project must have been completed between Aug. 1, 2010 and July 31, 2011.

While each candidate may submit only one application for a particular project, companies with multiple facilities or multiple projects may submit an application for each facility or project.
