The Best Places to Work program celebrates outstanding companies and their employees.
LANCASTER – An investment company and a media solutions firm were named the top two “Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania” for 2014 at the awards ceremony held here this evening.

Edward Jones of West Chester and Nxtbook Media, Lancaster, topped the list for the large- and small/medium-sized categories, respectively.

Team Pennsylvania Foundation joined the Department of Community and Economic Development and the Central Penn Business Journal in announcing Pennsylvania’s 100 Best Places to Work at the Lancaster County Convention Center. Team Pennsylvania is a founding partner and lead sponsor of Best Places to Work since the program began nearly 15 years ago.

“From small mom-and-pop shops to hospitals, mills and major manufacturers, Pennsylvania’s job creators help make our commonwealth the best place to live, work and raise a family,” Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary C. Alan Walker said. “DCED is honored to recognize these businesses that not only define Pennsylvania’s diverse and vibrant economy, but also empower our dedicated and talented workforce.”

“Superior companies are the foundation to the economic success of our commonwealth and the key to any superior company is a talented workforce,” said Laura H. Williams, President & CEO, Team Pennsylvania Foundation. “Team PA is proud to sponsor a program that celebrates and honors companies and sets a high standard of achievement and a distinction that makes businesses more attractive to their clients and potential employees.”

The Best Places to Work in PA includes two groups of 72 companies: small/medium-sized firms with 25-250 employees and 28 large-sized companies with 251 employees or more.

The rankings are compiled through research via a survey that’s sent to employers and employees from hundreds of companies in the commonwealth. Using a formula similar to Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work for in America,” the Best Companies Group scores the workplace practices survey along with the employee survey and each Best Places to Work candidate is given an overall score.

To be eligible, participating companies must:
• Be a for-profit or not-for-profit business;
• Be a publicly or privately held business;
• Have a facility in Pennsylvania;
• Have at least 25 employees in Pennsylvania; and
• Be in good standing with all commonwealth agencies under the Governor’s jurisdiction.
