Team PA partners with state to strengthen tourism industry

The Corbett administration announced a joint private/public partnership to strengthen Pennsylvania’s tourism industry.

The Department of Community and Economic Development’s (DCED) Tourism Office, the Pennsylvania Association of Travel and Tourism (PATT) and Team Pennsylvania Foundation, (Team PA) will operate the Pennsylvania Tourism Partnership, an initiative that will utilize the private sector to create a marketing plan for tourism.

State agencies cited for excellence in innovation

Awards in innovation were handed out to recognize state agencies for their efficiency, but the real winners were Pennsylvania residents.

During the past fiscal year, the 34 state government agencies streamlined services, cut operational costs and implemented innovative practices to the tune of a whopping $175 million. (An additional 140 projects with an estimated $200 million in savings and productivity are in progress.)

Savings, stewardship drives innovation at state agency

At the beginning of each staff meeting, Beth Woods asks her co-workers a simple question: Have you put on your taxpayer hat today?

That seemingly innocuous, but important, question has led the state Department of General Services (DGS) to realize savings of $7.7 million annually in its real estate division alone and another $40 million through the consolidation of the state’s vehicle fleet.

DGS won two of the top three awards at the Governor's Innovation Expo, a program that celebrates innovation in state government.

Back to life: alumni association revives Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences

Alumni of the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences (PGSS) speak highly of the program, saying it helped transform their lives.

Science school transforms students’ lives

Brynn McGovern had one word to describe her experience at the 2013 Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Sciences (PGSS).

“Honestly, for me, it was amazing,” said McGovern, a senior at Mount Saint Joseph’s Academy, Flourtown, Montgomery County. “I’ve never had this much collaboration before in a great academic environment where everybody cares and there is so much excitement and interest in learning.”

Vigon International enjoys the sweet smell of success

They may not be related by blood, but the nearly 70 employees at Vigon International are family.

And it is that sense of family that has allowed the East Stroudsburg-based manufacturer of flavors and fragrances to enjoy the sweet smell of success for 25 years.

The company’s success has not gone unnoticed: Vigon was honored as a recipient of the Governor’s ImPAct award for Small Business earlier this year.

Team Pennsylvania Foundation is proud to sponsor and support the GlobalPhilly2013 Exposition in collaboration with the Department of Community and Economic Development.

GlobalPhilly2013, Greater Philadelphia’s first ever public exposition of its international resources, programs, activities, and assets, will be held at locations throughout the City of Philadelphia and the surrounding region between September 15 and November 1.  Sponsored by the Global Philadelphia Association, the exposition aims to showcase the offerings of the Association’s broad and diverse membership and raise awareness of the region’s international character and potential.
