PPL announces electrical safety poster contest winners

Winners in this year’s PPL Electric Utilities Electrical Safety Poster Contest came from across the utility’s 10,000-square-mile service area in central and eastern Pennsylvania.

From Coplay and Bethlehem to Mount Joy, Duncannon and New Buffalo, creativity and electrical safety know-how came through in a big way.

More than 800 entries were received in the contest, which urged students in grades K-8 to get creative about electrical safety. Winners have been notified. The contest was developed by the utility with assistance from the National Energy Foundation.

“It was a pleasure to see how the kids really took electrical safety to heart and how they transferred those thoughts onto their posters,” said Brian Zickefoose, manager of Health and Safety for the utility. “As a utility, we not only want our employees to be safe, we want our customers and communities to be safe too.”

Zickefoose said instilling a safety mindset in children will have lifelong benefits.

The contest was open to students in kindergarten through eighth grade who attend a school served by PPL Electric Utilities. A winner was chosen for each grade, and grand-prize winners were selected in grade categories K-2, 3-5 and 6-8. Winners were chosen based on effective communication of the electrical safety theme and the visual presentation of that idea.

Grade level winners received $200, and grand-prize winners received $500. Teachers of grand-prize winners received a $500 classroom grant.
