The “Make It in America” challenge was initially issued by the U.S. Economic Development Administration in order to encourage foreign and domestic businesses to build or expand their operations in the United States. The U.S. EDA also offered funding to incentivize states to prioritize foreign direct investment and expansion. Team Pennsylvania collaborated with the Center for Direct Investment (CDI), a division of OIBD, to secure funding for these initiatives. We were successful in raising nearly $3 million from funding sources including the EDA, Employment and Training Administration, and National Institute of Standards and Technology – Manufacturing Partnership.
Team Pennsylvania continues to support the efforts of the CDI and OIBD with the initial funds raised. CDI’s primary responsibility is to promote Pennsylvania businesses at foreign trade shows and exhibitions. Pennsylvania has a strong manufacturing sector, especially in the 53 counties in the state served by CORE PA. OIBD and CID work with statewide partners to ensure that foreign companies are aware of the Commonwealth’s manufacturing potential.
In the past, Team PA has worked towards increasing the state’s share of international business, coordinating trade missions overseas and conducting stateside tours for foreign journalists, consultants, engineers, and others who have contact with firms overseas.
Pennsylvania wants to change the way we think about manufacturing. Events such as “Bringing the World to PA” and Pennsylvania Manufacturer’s Week are dedicated to showcasing and celebrating the manufacturers in Pennsylvania.
