Team Pennsylvania Foundation’s Board of Directors elected Stephen S. Tang, Ph.D., MBA, President & CEO of the University City Science Center, as Private Sector Co-Chair at its recent reorganizational meeting. Dr. Tang will lead the Foundation’s 43-member board alongside Public Sector Co-Chair Governor Tom Wolf. Dr. Tang joined the Team PA Board in 2012.

Dr. Tang became President & CEO of the Science Center, the nation’s first and largest urban research park, in 2008. Dr. Tang is the first president in the Science Center’s 52-year history to have not only led a company through venture funding and an initial public offering, but to also serve as a senior executive with a large life sciences company as it acquired and integrated smaller start-ups.

In 2014, Dr. Tang was named to the National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship (NACIE), which advises U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker on issues related to accelerating innovation, expanding entrepreneurship, and developing a globally competitive workforce.

Dr. Tang earned a doctorate in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University, an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.S. in Chemistry from the College of William and Mary.

“Dr. Tang’s background as both a private sector executive and nationally recognized leader in innovation and economic development will be invaluable to Team PA,” said Team PA Vice President & COO Ryan Unger, “With Steve’s direction we are excited about the opportunities to develop partnerships that drive economic and workforce development in our commonwealth.”

“I’m a strong believer in the power of public-private partnerships. Team Pennsylvania Foundation is uniquely positioned to have a meaningful impact on economic and workforce development. I am honored to serve as co-chair,” Tang said.

Also elected at the reorganizational meeting were David Kleppinger, McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC, as Vice-Chair and Tony Bartolomeo, Pennoni Associates, as Secretary.
